Meet the Sewist
Gene Brown-Sorensen
Owner, Sewist + Designer
Welcome to my website! I’m Gene, a dedicated and experienced sewist specializing in expert alterations and repairs for clothing and outdoor gear. With over 15 years in the industry, I am passionate about helping my clients enjoy garments that fit beautifully, feel comfortable, and last longer.
My background in fashion began as a small child when I commandeered my mom’s sewing machine and began learning how to sew. As I got older, I began learning the art of clothing construction, repair and alterations at various sewing shops. I always knew I wanted to work with clothing in some capacity, and that became a realistic goal when I attended Washington State University, where I graduated cum laude with a degree in Fashion Design. My work earned several awards during college, including recognition from the International Textile and Apparel Association, which inspired me to focus on the craft and detail that quality alterations require.
Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working on a range of garments and projects, from wedding dress and suit alterations to outdoor clothing and gear repairs. I approach each piece with a blend of technical skill and creative vision, ensuring that every stitch and adjustment enhances the garment’s fit, durability, and style. Whether it’s restoring a treasured garment, tailoring a suit to perfection, or mending well-loved outdoor gear, my goal is to provide services that combine functionality with artistry.
Thank you for visiting my site! I look forward to helping you bring new life to your garments through thoughtful, precise alterations, repair and design.
